Your MOT Certificate explained
At times the MOT test certificate can be confusing. Below find a simple explanation of the four different types of defect that can be found on your vehicle and documented on the MOT test certificate. Dangerous failure This is the most severe of defects that your vehicle can have. These failure items require immediate attention. The vehicle should not be driven with a dangerous defect until after the repair.
Major failure
Major failure items are still severe, however not immediately dangerous to the safety of the vehicle. They still require rectification for your vehicle to be deemed fit for an MOT Pass certificate to be issued.
Minor defect
Minor defects are not severe enough to cause a test Fail. However these are often noted when early signs of wear are apparent. They should be investigated before they progress into the major failure criteria.
Advisories
Advisories are often not severe, but minor defects with your vehicle. They are designed to inform the owner of the condition of their vehicle and future issues which may arise.
